the role of academic tenure and its respective consequence

The article is trying to outline about the role of academic tenure and its respective consequence. In general meaning, tenure in any career is a scenario whereby various workers are immune. Being immune means that the workers in any given field have some powers protecting their offices they hold and also their various policies they implement while in any given office. Academic tenure in our case regards mostly those in health and academic institututions.IN this case these workers are directly involved in tenure for instance they are given that advantage that they can stay in one institution, and they cannot be fired until their retirement time occurs (Chait 11).
One of the problem that is highlighted in the article talks about the behaviors that are associated with those workers who possess tenure. One of the problem that these particular workers exhibit is that they may be corrupting, immoral and ruthless. These traits develop since the workers are aware that they are immune from any criticism and as a result they can do anything they think will favor them. From the article, it is also said that the tenure guaranteed workers tend to create more complications since other young generations seeking the jobs from those respective positions cannot be in a position to acquire one. The issue of tenure in my view may be deemed as a bad form of running any given institution. This is because the workers of those institutions may feel that they are free to do anything wrong as they cannot be held responsible by any one. Due to this fact, even after the tenure is over, the workers may not be good examples of other workers. A good leader or worker must lead by an example, as a result, when tenure workers retire they become less effective in championing for change since they also practice uncalled for behaviors while still in the office (Chait 78).
Another problem related to academic tenure is the presence of various factors such as nepotism and racism in any given organization. When any given worker in the organization possess office tenure, it becomes clear that he or she may use the office to hire other junior workers using the race and tribal backgrounds. Due to this reason the required type of workers in the organization is not achieved and due to that fact the growth and productivity of any given organization are compromised. Apart from that tenure promotes laziness in the workforce. This is clear and true because for instance teachers and doctors may not fulfill their daily duties and tasks. As a result, they may end making the performance of their respective institutions display a negative growth and experience a loss. When any given stakeholder is lazy in his job, he or she becomes unproductive and surplus to the organization (Chait 90).
The issue regarding academic tenure and its problems, however, can be solved. There are various means that can be put in place to ensure that these problems are mitigated and prevented. One of the methods of the method that can be used to address the issue of tenure is having provisions of any given post or career being based on the performance contract. When performance contract is used to evaluate the performance of any given worker, it becomes clear to state that the development of organization tends to grow from a positive perspective. In addition to that, performance contract makes all workers to have good relationship with all the surrounding work force and that will make the workers responsible for any actions they may execute their duty. Another way to solve such problem is the use of management of various tasks in any given medical or learning institutions by use of the board of governors. The key role of both of governors is to act as the overseeing body that is responsible for ensuring that every academic worker who is given responsibility if any given task executes the task in an effective manner. When the worker’s way of work is in question or not clear it is believed that the worker is summoned by the board of governors to explain his or her responsibilities. This also ensures that he or she answers various integrity issues that he or she may be asked by the board to account for.
Another method of ensuring that the problem of tenure is solved is ensuring that all the workers in any given institution are also to outline their respective annually reports regarding their performance. By using this strategy, all the workers who have tenure or not when they table their respective accounts and methods of work they execute, they can be asked various queries regarding their integrity. Through this method, it becomes clear that workers or any other academic office tenure holder is accountable for his deeds (Chait 76).
On the other hand at sometime the tenure may be seen as a form of advantage. For instance, one of the advantages that can be associated with tenure is that it makes the organization do their respective jobs effectively. The various positions that are held by experienced workers tends to perform better compared to those organizations that are run by people who work on short rum basis. When any given worker is working on long term basis, it becomes clear that he or she might develop the organization to ensure optimal goals and objectives are achieved in the correct time frame. Another positive perceptive of tenure is that it allows the organizations to have confidence in their workers and due to that effect; various workers can perform various tasks without fearing any given consequence. For instance, there are at some times when any person is required to be sacked by the organization. It becomes difficult to do that with a person who does not have tenure. A person with no tenure in his work may find it difficult to fire any worker since he or she may fear being subjected to be fired by his seniors. On the other hand, tenure enabled workers can execute their mandate without any form of fear.
Tenure is also good since it give the workers in any given field morale of executing their duties. This is because many workers who have tenure ensure that all the actions they make are not accountable. When any one performs work without fearing any given outcome, the quality of work tends to increase and he also she is also subjected to possess various management roles of any good manager or worker. In addition to that tenure is important since all the workers in charge of any given office execute their duties effectively. To conclude it can be said that tenure is important since it also makes the workers have good fighting spirit of their respective positions they hold in their work (Chait 237).
