Critical Regionalism
Study one architect practicing today in a place where Critical Regionalism (CR) remains relevant or important as a framework. It could be in mainland China, Taiwan, HK, Korea, Japan, India or any other territories or countries in Asia, or somewhere in Europe and North America,
Assess his/her work against the criteria of CR and access CR against the work of his/her design. What can we tell from this two-way observation? Is there any critique can we develop on his/her work, and/or on the articulation of CR for today? In what ways is the framework of CR in need of reformulation and how, in the current age of hyper-globalization (2010s)? This essay will be based on a selected study on the architect’s design works and his/her writings. Textural reading and analysis on the key theoretical writings will be useful as well.
