The IEP includes specific learning objectives as well as other supports needed including both accommodations and modifications that enable access to the Australian Curriculum (or your state or national general curriculum if you are outside of Australia). Each of the autism characteristic areas should be addressed in the student’s overall program plan. The plan will address specific learning objectives and adjustments needed across all indicated specific areas. A minimum of 5(five) learning objectives must be included in the overall plan. These‌‌‍‌‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‍‍‍‌‌‌‍ may address all 5 autism underlying characteristic areas or may be specific to particular areas, depending on the needs of the child. Your plan should demonstrate when these learning objectives will be explicitly taught throughout the school day and what adjustments will be put in place to address the specific needs of the child. Essentially you will develop an overall schedule that includes the IEP objectives, supports, modifications and/or accommodations embedded within the learner’s daily schedule. You may use any of the tools provided in the readings (e.g., Comprehensive Autism Planning System) or design your‌‌‍‌‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‍‍‍‌‌‌‍ own.
