Miles Davis-Miles Davis, each phase of music he experienced throughout his life, his disappearance in the 1970, the genius trumpet player, the drug addiction and attempts to get his career back

My topic is about Miles Davis, each phase of music he experienced throughout his life, his disappearance in the 1970, the genius trumpet player, the drug addiction and attempts to get his career back. I chose Miles because in my eyes he is the embodiment of jazz at its peak. He truly was a pioneer to new sounds of the art, excellence and style of his time. I wish to explore the radical changes throughout his life in pertaining to not just his music but also the paths of his journey that shaped a legend. I titled this “Illinois to New America” because New York was the only place like it during these times of Jazzes uprise, it was nothing like his home state. Work Cites: (feel free to add more or change them based on what you will write) Title: Illinois to New America “Miles Later.” Digging: The Afro-American Soul of American Classical Music, by Amiri Baraka, 1st ed., University of California Press, 2009, pp. 9–18. Quote: Miles had a demeanor about him that we liked. He was serious, he was “clean”, and he could play. He was one of our priests from the beginning. He was one of the sound scientists who had ushered in the new learning of commercial big band chartism the corporate media sacrilegious called “swing”… “Miles was a young master, a young prince, a black prince, whose very memeanor and voice was the essence of was hip.” Analysis: The respect and acknowledgement this man recieved from his peers at the time was unprecedented. He was quite the icon living in his area and people respected his talent. His drive his personality exalted a sense of pureness most people had never seen before. “Miles Ahead”. Dir. Don Cheadle. Perf. Don Cheadle, Ewan McGregor. Sony Pictures, 2015. Quote: I don’t like that word, “jazz”. Don’t… Don’t call it “jazz”, man. That’s some made-up word. Trying to box somebody in. Don’t call my music “jazz”. It’s social music. Analysis: His music is for all audiences not just jazz lovers. He was just a jazz player he was a man that played jazz. I believe Mr. Davis saw himself as an artist of sound and life not a trumpet player that makes noise. I believe something similar in the sense of calling an artisan an painter. McCarthy, James. “Miles Davis – Kind Of Blue”. Jazzwisemagazine.Com, 2018, http://www.jazzwisemagazine.com/artists/13632-miles-davis-kind-of-blue. Accessed 25 Oct 2018. Quote: No other recording in jazz has come remotely near acquiring the kind of cachet Kind of Blue has accumulated over the decades. It’s an album that has probably been responsible for more Damascene conversions of non-believers into the jazz faith than any other, it has been the base-station from where countless fans have begun their journey into jazz and it’s an album that crops-up in the record collections of classical, rock, pop and Country and Western devotees who would not otherwise give jazz house room. Analysis: Kind of Blue has inspired so many musicians in all genres and people of all shades for generations. The article also goes on to explain all the awards, top 100 lists and acknowledgements his music has achieved before and after his death. Yudkin, Jeremy. “An Analysis Of Miles Davis’s Kind Of Blue | Oupblog”. Oupblog, 2018, https://blog.oup.com/2014/08/miles-davis-kind-of-blue-classic-jazz-album/. Accessed 22 Oct 2018. Quote: A major force in post-war American jazz, Miles Davis was a pioneer of cool jazz, hard bop, and modal jazz in a variety of small group formats. Analysis: The originator of new styles of music after the Vietnam war.
