 What is the organization’s vision, mission, and philosophy? • How does the organizational culture and philosophy support nonprofit sector values versus market or business values? • What are some of the strategic initiatives for the NGO? Have they been successful in achieving these? Why or why not? • How is the NGO organized? Does it have HQs and field operations? Does it have top-down control orientation or more of a bottom-up stakeholder approach? How diverse are the staff and board? • How are they governed? What is the governing structure? Who has the power? • Who do they serve? What is their constituency? • Is it able to respond rapidly to world changes, to adapt to diversity? How is this shown? • As a new leader, what actions could you take to help the NGO be more effective in achieving its vision, mission, and strategic objectives? In the second part of the paper, please address the following: • How has the organization created a network with stakeholders to complete projects and initiatives? • What links does the NGO have between its own micro and/or macro initiatives and with other organizations (Other NGOs, nonprofits, businesses, and government organizations) in the global network? Analyze the quality of the collaboration and communication. What challenges is the NGO facing in working across a global network? How might you address those challenges as a leader in this NGO? • What is the funding strategy of the NGO? Where does the NGO get its funds, and does this create conflicts between the NGO and external funders? Or between the NGO and its constituents? Or between the NGO Board of Directors and staff? • What are the organizational goals, and how is performance measured? • What audiences are the NGO accountable to, and to what extent does their opinion count if the organization is to stay credible?
