Research Question: One of the assumptions underlying the push for the adoption of gender quotas throughout the world is that women exercise power differently and bring different issues and perspectives to politics. To what extent do you find this assumption plausible? Develop your answer on the basis of the material we’ve covered and what you’ve learned throughout this entire course, using material from class as evidence to support your arguments and aim to incorporate all that you can from the entire term.  Thesis: While gender quotas, on paper, seem to be an effective method to push for gender equality in the political sphere, they are not as effective as given credit and can actually do more harm to female political powers as not all women politicians have equal stances on issues (especially ‘gendered’ issues such as abortion or intersectionality) and may not be figures independent from the workings of male-dominated political parties trying to work around gender quotas.
