Orwell’s 1984 totalitarian and panopticonism

1.      Explain the two notions of self-love presented by Aristotle in Book 9 of the Nicomachean Ethics and Rousseau’s Discourse on the Origin of Inequality.

In making this comparison explain and define what Aristotle means by his two version of “Self-Love” and what Rousseau means by the terms amour de soi-meme and amour propre.

Compare and contrast Aristotle’s two notions of Self-Love with Rousseau from the Second Discourse. Compare and contrast these ideas particularly light of the fact that each has a “good” version of Self-Love and a “bad” version but they are not the same.

(Draw on Book 9 especially Chaps. 4, 8, of Aristotle’s Nicomachean Ethics and the Rousseau’s Second Discourse)
