In addition, the necessity for quality and safety improvement initiatives permeates health care.

Quality health care is defined as “the degree to which health services for individuals and populations increase the likelihood of desired health outcomes and are consistent with current professional knowledge” (p. 1161).

According to the Institute of Medicine (IOM) report, To Err Is Human, the majority of medical errors result from faulty systems and processes, not individuals.

In addition, processes that are inefficient and variable, changing case mix of patients, health insurance, differences in provider education and experience, and numerous other factors contribute to the complexity of health care.

With this in mind, the IOM also asserted that today’s health care industry functions at a

lower level than it can and should, and it put forth the following six aims of health care:

effective, safe, patient-centered, timely, efficient, and equitable.

Lastly, the aims of effectiveness and safety are targeted through process-of-care measures, assessing whether providers of health care perform processes that have

been demonstrated to achieve the desire d aims and avoid those processes that are predispos ed toward harm.

Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)

Learning Objectives

By the end of this section, you will be able to:

Define corporate social responsibility and the triple bottom line approach

Compare the sincere application of CSR and its use as merely a public relations tool

Explain why CSR ultimately benefits both companies and their stakeholders

Thus far, we have discussed stakeholders mostly as individuals and groups outside the organization.

This section focuses on the business firm as a stakeholder in its environment and examines the concept of a corporation as a socially responsible entity conscious of the influences it has on society.

That is, we look at the role companies, and large corporations in particular, play as active stakeholders in communities.

Corporations, by their sheer size, affect their local, regional, national, and global communities.

Creating a positive impact in these communities may mean providing jobs, strengthening economies, or driving innovation.

Negative impacts may include doing damage to the environment, forcing the exit of smaller competitors, and offering poor customer service, to name a few.

Lastly, this section examines the concept of a corporation as a socially responsible entity conscious of the influences it has on society.

In recent years, many organizations have embraced corporate social responsibility (CSR),

a philosophy (introduced in Why Ethics Matter,) in which the company’s expected actions include not only producing a reliable product,

charging a fair price with fair profit margins, and paying a fair wage to employees,

but also caring for the environment and acting on other social concerns.

You will choose a major field of criminology (Classical, Biological, Psychological, or Sociological) that explains the causation of one the following crimes:

1) any crime selected from the Uniform Crime Reports, National Incident-Based Reporting System, or National Crime Victimization Survey;

2) any white-collar crime; or

3) any environmental crime. Your analysis will apply only to your one chosen crime.

In these four substantive sections, you will 1) analyze causation of the crime based on your selected field of criminology and

2)Lastly,  three sections comparing and contrasting the other three fields of criminology, explaining why they’re not as significant a cause for your chosen crime.

Biological theories

Additionally, biological theories of crime asserted a linkage between certain biological conditions and an increased tendency to engage in criminal behaviour.

In the 1890s great interest, as well as controversy, was generated by the biological theory of the Italian criminologist Cesare Lombroso, whose investigations of the skulls and facial features of criminals led him to the hypothesis that serious or persistent criminality was associated with atavism, or the reversion to a primitive stage of human development.

Also, in the mid-20th century, William Sheldon won considerable support for his theory that

criminal behaviour was more common among muscular, athletic persons (mesomorphs)

than among tall, thin persons (ectomorphs) or soft, rounded individuals (endomorphs).

Lastly, during the 1960s, significant debate arose over the possible association between

criminal tendencies and chromosomal abnormalities—in particular,

Building on the insights of the self-efficacy literature, this study highlights that collective efficacy is a collective perception that comes from a process.

Also, this study emphasizes that 1) there is updating, as there are feedback effects from success or failure by the group to the perception of collective efficacy, and 2)

this updating raises the importance of accounting for members’ degree of uncertainty regarding neighborhood collective efficacy.

More so, using a sample of 113 block groups in three rural North Carolina counties, this study finds evidence of updating as neighborhoods perceiving more crime or disorder reported less collective efficacy at the next time point.

Furthermore, collective efficacy was only associated with lower perceived disorder at the next time point when it occurred in highly cohesive neighborhoods.

Finally, neighborhoods with more perceived disorder and uncertainty regarding collective efficacy at one time point had lower levels of collective efficacy at the next time point, illustrating the importance of uncertainty along with updating.

A growing body of literature has employed the concept of collective efficacy to explain various neighborhood processes (for reviews of this literature, see ).

More so, a not uncommon consequence for any construct to which social scientists turn with

such vigor is that this wholesale adoption of a concept runs the risk of creating conceptual confusion.

That is, there is a risk that all things good are collective efficacy, just as the concept of

social capital sometimes simply indicates all things good in a neighborhood or

community.

Basic Types of Government

When it comes to types of government, five specific types come to the forefront. Most forms of government are some variation of one of these.

Authoritarian

In an authoritarian regime, the government has total control. Authoritarian regimes have typically earned this control by forceful means.

While this seems pretty cut and dried, it is anything but. Authoritarian regimes aren’t always easy to recognize.

They might still hold elections and have branches of government, but only a small group holds the power, not the people. A good worldly example of an authoritarian government is Cuba.

Democracy

Another big government type is democracy, which is an example of a limited government.

In direct contrast to an authoritarian government, a democracy exists when the people hold the power.

Different types of democracy include direct and representative. If you’ve ever wondered about the United States’ government type, democracy is your answer. But they’re not the only example of democracy in the world.

Canada, Sweden, and Columbia are a few other examples.

Monarchy

A monarchy isn’t as common as a democracy, but you still hear about them. In a monarchy, one family rules the roost, so to speak. And their title is passed down through the generations.

However, much like a democracy, who is in charge isn’t totally cut and dried.

In an absolute monarchy, the king or ruler is in control of all the government.

The more common constitutional monarchy has a royal family, but they serve mostly as ceremonial figures.

As an example, think of the United Kingdom and Queen Elizabeth. She is the queen, but the parliament has most government control.

Analyze and explain the importance and impact of changing technologies on Western Civilization.

Argue what you believe are the 3 most important inventions in Western Civilization from 1500 C.E. to the present.

Take into consideration how technology has changed Western Civilization and it’s placement in world and what might be different if that technology were never invented.

Do not just list things, use specific examples and evidence.

(For example don’t just list things your phone does).

Also the inventions must originate with a Western Civilization or be a Western improvement on an existing invention.

Also, technology is changing every aspect of our lives. The benefits provided by new digital approaches are having a huge impact on our societies.
However, one of the greatest business challenges is not about the devices, software or solutions
– it is about how we manage the process of cultural change.

At the beginning of this year, I took charge of a new region – one with hugely varying and diverse cultures

– and I have quickly seen for myself how technology is adopted in different ways and how countries are digitally divided by access and availability.

Additionally, many facets of global communications today are influenced by cultural differences – be it email, Skype, social media or the telephone.

In my experience, regardless of your preferences, the key to communicating successfully is understanding and respecting all of our differences to enable a positive impact.

The human touch

More so, we humans are social animals. Technology can’t replace human interaction.

We need to combine the human and digital elements to communicate across our borders.

From Marx’s famous dictum that religion is “the opium of the people” to Weber’s recognition of the dignity reaped by the “religiously musical,” disagreement about both the prosocial and deleterious—even violent—effects of religious beliefs and practices has been a long discussion in social theory.

The social scientific literature shows that religion is shape d by social structures—including economic and political structures—and also that, as an integral element of many cultures, it can shape those same structures in turn.

This article discusses the dialectical relationship between religion and social structures to consider when and how religion has the capacity to alleviate poverty and where it might figure in inequality’s endurance or exacerbation.

The range of the empirical cases considered here not only suggests the power of

religion to address poverty, but also and importantly, the ways in which religion can be

co-opted in sustaining the status quo for poor and politically subjugated groups.

Taking a global view in case selection, this article shows that although differences in

these processes do exist based on global location, there are many similarities that cross national and religious lines.

Questions about the ways in which religion may help to alleviate poverty are of concern

to a broad interdisciplinary audience that includes theologians,

And as I dug deeper into the “voice search SEO” area I started to ask myself whether “revolution” is the suitable word for this discussion.

Don’t get me wrong, I am totally impressed by the voice search engineering and the level of innovation it brings.

However, is it the case that we should all just forget everything we know about digital marketing and SEO and start re-inventing ourselves from a “voice search” point of view?

For the moment, is it really a “voice search optimization” need ed, as most of the industry articles suggest?

Is personal assistant search optimization (PASO) the future of SEO or will the future of search change?

As a content marketer and not only, you should know the answers to these questions.

How Many Searches Are Really Made on Voice Only?

More so, first thing first, when looking at the voice search SEO area, although you may already have this info, it’s important to know how does the search engine market share looks like.

As expected and as you can see in the screenshot below, Google holds the

supremacy with more than 70%, followed by Bing and Baidu, which together sum up around 20% .

So, only 10% of the total market share is disput ed by other dozens of search engines.

In addition, as part of its statement of task, the committee was asked to review the state of health

disparities in the United States and to explore the underlying conditions and root causes

contributing to health inequities and the interdependent nature of the factors that create

them (drawing from existing literature and syntheses on health disparities and health inequities).

In addition, this chapter summarizes data related to military veterans as well as rural versus urban-area differences.

The committee drew on existing literature, comprehensive reviews (AHRQ,

2016; NCHS, 2016), and recent studies.

More so, in Chapters 2 and 3, the report features examples of communities that are taking action to address the root causes of health inequity.

Also, these brief examples are meant to be illustrative of the work being undertaken by communities throughout the country.

Also, in Chapter 5 the report takes a more in-depth look into nine examples of community-driven solutions to promote health equity.

More so, for the purposes of this report, health disparities are differences that exist among specific population groups in the United States in the attainment of full health potential that can be measured by differences in incidence, prevalence, mortality, burden of disease, and other adverse health conditions ().

While the term disparities is often use d or interprete d to reflect differences between racial or ethnic groups, disparities can exist across many other dimensions as well, such as gender, sexual orientation, age, disability status, socioeconomic status, and geographic location.

In every significant chapter of Tennessee’s history, black men and women have played important roles.

More so yet few of the many books published on Tennessee’s history attribute significant roles to the state’s African-American citizens.
Also, except for chapters on slavery, the aftermath of slavery, and civil rights, the books written by most European-American authors generally ignore social and cultural African-American history in Tennessee.

Therefore, the majority of history books on Tennessee are inadequate and incomplete for the full study of the state’s rich history and culture, because in the nineteenth century African Americans comprised fully a quarter of Tennessee’s citizens–which should mean that they would be included in at least twenty-five percent of the state’s history.

Also, that is not the case and in Tennessee, in particular, early black history is sorely lacking.
Not until the twentieth century were real attempts made to complete studies on Tennessee’s African-American history.

Although these studies by white graduate students contributed greatly to the study of Tennessee’s black population, the books focused on blacks as mere workers and objects.

Lastly, precisely because of this national problem, black historian Carter G. Woodson, the second black American to receive a Ph.D. in history, joined with other concerned black leaders in Washington, D. C., to form the Association for the Study of Negro Life and History, Inc. (ASNLH), in 1915.
